Pardubice were in the lead for the whole duration of the game, but despite the quick head start and lead of 9 points (17:8 after 7 minutes) they weren’t able to make it a double digit number. They dominated on rebounds from the start (11 offensive rebounds in the first half) but they also made a lot of turnovers, which Furnir took advantage of and scored easy points. The key part of the game was the ending of the third quarter. In the half of the 27th minute was the guest team loosing only by 7 points but the home team then extended their scoring to 12:4, and when they upped their lead by 19 points 7,5 minutes before the end, they were able to control the game.

Post-game quotes:

Dino Repeša, coach of Pardubice: “I am very happy that we have accomplished our first goal for this season, which was to go forward in Alpe Adria Cup. Unfortunately, I have to say that we played at 30% compared to our league’s game in Opava on Saturday. Maybe it was because we only had one practice to prepare, but that is not an alibi. The only good part of the game was the last 3 minutes of the third quarter, where we finally bounced back with the points, but other than that our performance wasn’t good. To have 17 turnovers is not a place we can play with and be successful, the same can be said about many mistakes on defense. In the end, the determining factor was the individual quality of our players, thanks to which we have won.”

Tomáš Vyoral, player of Pardubice: “I have to say that for the fans and the other viewers, it wasn’t the most pleasant game to watch. We were actually pulling for the win with our opponents the whole game. We were in the lead for the whole time but it wasn’t anything dominant for most of it, mainly because we had a lot of turnovers and a lot of misunderstandings. We put a lot of easy balls into our opponent’s hands in the first half, in the second half, we tried to better ourselves in that way, plus we scored some baskets and thanks to that, we were able to control the ending. Overall, the determining factor was the ending of the third quarter, where we jumped to the lead by 15 points. “

Jeronimo Šarin, coach of Furnir: “First of all, I want to congratulate the team of Pardubice for the deserved victory. They proved more than once that they are the best team in this group and I wish them all the best in the future. We have two games in front of us that we need to focus on to go forward in Alpe Adria Cup. We were more focused on the game we had in our domestic championship on Saturday. I have to say that I am satisfied with this game, too bad that we didn’t adapt to this level of athletical basketball, but in the end we are one of the youngest teams in our league, so we know what to work on in the future. Pardubice showed us that they have a really good inside game with their big guy and we tried to cover that by doubling in the defense and it worked for some time but in the second half they found open players and scored some points.”

Filip Paponja, player of Furnir: “Congratulations to the team from Pardubice, they deserved to win. I think we gave a good effort in the first half, it was close, unlike our last game with them in Zagreb, where they dominated the second quarter. In the second half they started playing more aggressively, we managed to handle that for some time, but then the game got away from us. But I still think it was a good effort from the team, Pardubice are obviously on a higher level than us and we have to work hard to get to that level. I think the deciding factor was their physicality, especially in the second half.”
