Ray was missing for the Lions, who began with Danek, Güttl, Schmit, Andjelkovic and Rados. The guests from Slovenia decided to put Atanackovic, Burgett, Jack, Rotar and Benson at the beginning on the floor. It was an intensive game from the tip off. Traiskirchen tried to find Rados under the basket, while Hopsi used its miss matches with the small Lions guards Danek and Schmit. First quarter ends 18-16 for the home team.

In the second quarter Lions coach Kostic put some of his young players in the game and his time lost its offensive rythm. The slovenian team got some steals and led at halftime with 9 points.

After the break the first scored basket was from Hopsi Polezala, but after that Traiskirchen put a run on the floor and gets back into the game. Lions captain Güttl was fouled on the buzzer for the end of the quarter and he hit all three awarded three throws. With 61-63 the game went into the final 10 minutes.

Lions did not manage to finish their comeback in the final quarter. Hopsi was able to make some important three point shots and took an 72-82 win back to Slovenia.

Zoran Kostic, head coach of Lions: “Our young guys found better to the match. Parts of the game were okay, other parts were bad, espescially in defense.”

Benedikt Güttl, player of Lions: “This was game at eye level. We gave a good account on ourselves. We had good phases, but made big mistakes in defense, let them score to many easy points and did not controll the rebounds. In offense our low-post game was not like we want it to be.”

Bostjan Kuhar, head coach of Polzela: “Todays game was preperation for our league game. The teams in Austria are very aggressive, which fits us. Because of goo shooting from three point range and good defensive rebounds we won this game.”

Casey Benson, player of Polzela: “This was a big game for us. We wanted to come out and play well, even though we had a long drive. It was a little slow start, but we picked it back up and got the much needed win.”
