In the 3rd round of the Alpe Adria Cup, Furnir registered its first victory. Jeronimo Šarin’s team celebrated in Dubrava against Gunners Oberwart from Austria 71:67 in a tough game with a modest shooting percentage.  The way to victory was on the back of Taveion Hollingsworth (20p), who had help from Mateo Vidović (14), and Emil Savić’s three-pointer proved to be important for 63:62. The Austrians had +9 in the first half (34:25), but Furnir caught the lead by halftime (38:38). In the sequel, the lower number of points and great combativeness of Dubrava was rewarded with victory. Kenan Karahodžić scored for 68:67, and after a missed attack by Oberwart, it was Savić who had steady hands from the free throw line.

Post-game quotes:

Jeronimo Šarin, head coach of Furnir: ”We needed one victory after two defeats in the HT Premier League and the AAC. It’s true that three defeats came from extra-quality rivals, but we simply wanted to win this game for our sake, self-confidence and future games. Tonight we had a much higher energy consumption than in the match with Alkar. This victory leaves us in the fight for the first two places in the group.”

Taveion Hollingsworth, player of Furnir:‘We played a good game on defense and gave our best. We could have had a better shooting night, but he will get better with time. An important victory for us, for our self-confidence.”

Horst Leitner, head coach of Oberwart: “Congratulations to Furnir and congratulations to the judges.”

Sebastian Kaeferle, player of Oberwart: “It was a tough match and I congratulate Furnir who fought hard and deservedly won in the end.”
