We are only a few hours away from the start of the next edition of the Alpe Adria Cup. In Zabok, the Opening Event will offer fans three matches in three days. We bring you everything you need for these matches.
The new edition will kick off on 22 September at 19.00 hrs with the host Zabok facing the first ever participant from Romania – Timisoara. „We decided that as a newcomer, we wanted to show you our new venue, and host you in the best possible way, other teams agreed, and that was the green light for us. We expect a lot of good basketball, a lot of good fun, and a good rehearsal for the start of the season in our domestic leagues,“ revealed the general manager of Zabok Ozren Hanžek.
It will be a two-match test on neutral ground for the holder of the wild card. “We go to Croatia with the hope that we will play good basketball. I hope we won’t repeat our mistakes from the last 15 minutes of our cup game and get at least one win. We are ready for the competition, but we don’t know what awaits us. We have been researching information about the opponents, but they have only played in their own countries and it is difficult to get to the videos,” said Dragan Petričević, coach of the Romanian team.
The next day they will face Slovenia’s Rogaška, who returned to the competition after five years. They also have two matches in Zabok. “We want our young basketball players to gain as much experience as possible this season. The opponents are great, I expect good games against them. The final result will largely depend on the form on the day and the energy shown. We will go from game to game, but we want to finish in one of the promotion places,” said Rogaška coach Peter Markovinovič.
