The game started very easy on both ends – the teams tried to play a long offensive game and score in the end. Sluneta had 3 big advantages with great hight under the basket which lead  BC Hallmann to take lots of shuts from outside. After a few minutes the home team was able to stop more and more balls to reach Slunetas’ tall guys under the basket which caused a lead of BC Vienna at the end of the first quarter.

Sluneta was highly motivated and tried to stop Jason Detrick from his 3-point-run who scored 3 in total in this quarter. Both teams became more aggressive in Defense and therefore more fouls were called. The guests from the czech republic minimized the difference on the scoreboard and were able to hold it at minus 2 until halftime break.

Again Jason Detrick who caused Coach Pistecky a headache – he started the second half as he finished the first with 3 points from far behind the line. The boys from Sluneta kept fighting and achieved after 3 minutes the lead for the first time in this game. Coach Gresta had to take a time out. Unfortunately the time out didn’t cause the same reaction as normally on his players. It took them 5 more minutes to wake up and gain the control of the game again. The third quarter ended 78:70.

Anton Shoutvin did a great job to hold against the big men under the basket and Jason Detrick still on fire. BC Hallmann was able to stay in front and even increase the gap. Sluneta tried to fight back but was not able to win this game.

Stazic Strbac, manager of Vienna: “My guys gave today absolutely everything they had, they left their heart on the floor. I think we made the city of Vienna tonight very proud.”

Gresta, head coach of Vienna: “I have to say we really played very well against a strong team and we did our job. I am very proud of the guys and now we made the first step and we have to travel to the czech republic and thinking that it’s 0:0 because 7 points difference is nothing – trying to reach the final four. Today this is a very good first step!”

Pistecky, head coach of Sluneta: “It was the 4th game within 5 days for us – guys were very tired but that’s not an excuse. We didn’t play a very good defense, I was sometimes surprised how stupid we played on defense and this is not acceptable in 2nd or 3rd division Basketball. Today they don’t deserve to play in this division.”
