Lasko advances to semifinals after nailbiter

ZLATOROG LAŠKO : TRAISKIRCHEN LIONS 62:53 (16:16, 29:27, 47:38)

Venue: Sports hall Tri lilije (SLO).

Zlatorog Laško: Baric 15, Rizvic 13, Tratnik 12, Ledl 6, Krusic & Miljkovic 8.
Traiskirchen Lions: Draskovic 16, Vay 11, Güttl & Detrick 7, F. Trmal 6, Danek 4, M. Trmal 2.

It was a tough game for both teams. After the first duel, the Austrian team was in the better position, but not by much. Sixt point deficit after the first game put a pressure on Slovenian players, but was also a big motive, because the stakes were higher this time. The audience in the sports hall Tri lilije watched a equalized duel in the first 20 minutes of the game, in which none of the teams gained a bigger advantage. In the third quarter Zlatorog took the initiative, and with partial score 12:2 got a 10 point lead (43:33). They retained this advantage through the last quarter and in the end won by 9 points, which was enough to put them trough to the next round of Sixt Alpe Adria Cup.

Aleš Pipan, head coach Zlatorog Lasko: “I expected this kind of game. Today we played without Jan Span, who got a pretty bad injury on the last game of the Slovenian championship. We played well in the defence, but in the offence we just did not play fluently, we somehow could not relax, which led to poor field goal shooting percentage. The Austrians showed resistance, but in the end we were better, and we deserved this win.“

Nejc Barič, košarkar Zlatoroga Laškega: “It was a tough game, as expected. After the first quarterfinal game we were down by six points. Today we focused on the defence, which we played really well. But in the offence we lacked precision. At the end, the only important thing is, that we ensured ourselves a spot in the semifinals.“
